Liam McCarthy

Liam is a dedicated family lawyer who helps his clients navigate their disputes with professionalism, empathy, and efficiency. He is committed to providing clear, practical advice and achieving timely, cost-effective resolutions that deliver the best possible outcomes for his clients.

  • Biography

    Liam brings extensive experience to family law, beginning his career as an Associate in the Federal Circuit Court of Australia. He later worked as a Legal Policy Officer at the Commonwealth Attorney-General’s Department, contributing to family law reforms and assisting with international child abduction cases under the Hague Convention. Liam has a proven track record in high-stakes litigation, including intervening on behalf of creditors and cases involving allegations of harm, reversals of residence.

    Liam holds a Juris Doctor and Bachelor of Arts from the University of Melbourne. Prior to returning to Melbourne, he was the Secretary of the Canberra Region Family Law Professionals Association (2023–2024). He is now a member of the Law Institute of Victoria and the Family Law Section of the Law Council of Australia.

    Liam has great aptitude for navigating difficult family law cases and achieving favourable results both in and out of Court. He understands that litigation is only one tool towards a fair resolution and has had many successful out of Court settlements, saving clients significant time, stress and expense. In court, his successful reported cases include Arap & Arap [2024] FedCFamC1F 601 (a difficult parenting case) and Barilla & Barilla (No 6) [2023] FedCFamC1F 1002 (acting for a liquidator).

    Liam enjoys technical drafting and has prepared numerous pre and post-nuptial financial agreements and child support agreements
